Reflection #1
Personally, I really enjoyed doing community service. It was really fun working with the kids at the Boo Bash. I feel like I raised a lot of money doing the dunk tank because the kids thought it was so much fun to dunk me, that they just coming back again and again. The kids there were a lot of fun to be around, and they had a blast. I was glad to be a part of their experience at the Boo Bash, and I’d love to do it again. The DVUSD Focus Group was also a great learning experience for me, and I had a lot of fun doing it. Going into it I was thinking this was going to be some formal meeting that would be pretty boring, but it wasn’t anything like I expected. I like how they reached out to students to ask for their input, and it seemed like our voice actually meant something to the district officials. I hope that our feedback will actually help to get something done. Doing this community service made me feel like I was giving back to society. And hopefully society benefited from it as much as I have.
Reflection #2
There is a lot one could learn from doing community service. I think community service has benefited me greatly. It felt really good to put aside time to help people who need the help. It may have been a requirement for me to do community service, but now that I’ve done it, I want to get out and do more. Community service immensely benefits the society as a whole. People should get out and do volunteer work every opportunity they get because it will make them feel better as a person knowing that they helped make someone’s life easier free of charge. The purpose of community service is to provide a service to society and to build good morals in all the people who participate. I like the idea of requiring community service for Government class senior year, but I feel like schools should take it a step further and require it for all 4 years of high school. That’s how important I think community service is to society.
